Basic Overnight Oats Two Ways

Updated: Oct 24, 2019

I love overnight oats. Actually, that is an understatement...I'm full blown obsessed with overnight oats! And what's not to love? They're portable, versatile, quick, easy, and healthy. Plus for those of us who happen to be breastfeeding mamas, they are natural milk supply boosters. I've made a lot of different twists on my basic overnight oats, but I always come back to this recipe because it is tried and true. The best part is you can switch it up anytime simply by changing your toppings. I promised y'all two ways though so after the basic recipe I'm sharing my two favorite ways to dress up my oats.

Basic Overnight Oats Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats

  • 1/2 tbsp chia seeds

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 shake of cinnamon

  • 3/4 cup almond milk

1) Combine oats, cinnamon, and chia seeds in mason jar then mix up ingredients.

2) Add vanilla and almond milk to dry ingredients then seal mason jar and give it a good shake.

3) Refrigerate for at least one night, but can be stored up to 3 days.

This recipe for overnight oats is called basic because it is just the basic items needed, but there are endless options to mix up your morning oats. My two favorite ways to top my oats are almond butter and jelly or blueberry almond. This is just the beginning though because I will be sharing even more ways in future posts.

Blueberry Almond Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup blueberries

  • 2 tbsp sliced almonds

  • extra 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp honey (optional if you want a little added sweetness)

Almond Butter and Jelly

  • 1 tbsp almond butter (or nut butter of choice)

  • 1 tbsp fruit spread (I prefer Trader Joe's fruit spread because it has no added sugar)

1) Mix ingredients into oats and enjoy! Oats can be enjoyed cold or warm depending on preference. If you like warm, just pop it in the microwave for 60 seconds then stir.

This is definitely the simplest recipe I will ever share on breadandkale.com, but sometimes simple is all you need especially when there are endless possibilities to change it up. If you put your own twist on the basic overnight oats be sure to tag me on Instagram at @breadandkaleenthusiast because I'd love to see!
